If you’re
following trends, you know that sportswear has been all the rage in the past
few years, and the trend isn’t slowing down at all. But if you’re hesitant
about trying out the style, you might miss out on some amazing looks. Also,
you’re not alone – there are so many people that feel like leggings and
sweatshirts outside of the gym are a big no, and that they will make you look
like you just rolled out of bed. Don’t worry – here are some amazing tips on
how to always look perfectly polished and put together – even in sportswear.
Make an effort with hair and makeup
If you do roll
out of bed and put on sweatpants – that’s what you’re going to look like.
However, if you have your hair and makeup done, nobody is ever going to think
that you’ve just left the gym. And you don’t have to – and, in fact, shouldn’t
– go too wild with your makeup. Having just a little bit of mascara on, some
concealer to brighten up your face and a touch of lipstick will make you look
amazing. As for your hair, whether you wear it up or down, just make sure that
it’s clean, comber through and doesn’t look like you’ve given up on life.
Go for elegant
Sportswear isn’t just one type of clothing – there are so many categories that exist within the sportswear scope, and all you need to do is find one that suits you. If you don’t want to jump into the deep end, start with something elegant. Your best option to start with are women’s sneakers which can come in such beautiful, elegant shapes that nobody will even notice they’re sneakers. You can also start with some basic T-shirts and tank tops, as well as leggings that are elegant and simple enough to not be noticeable.
Mix it with other styles
If you put together some leggings and a long-sleeved sports shirt,
but then put a big, warm shawl around your neck, you’re going to totally lift
the look and make it something unique. Wear your sports leggings with a casual
tunic or a sports bra with a long maxi skirt. There are
so many ways in which you can mix styles that you will be able to find
something you feel comfortable in. And that is the whole point of wearing
sportswear – comfort.
Choose the right occasion
Going to brunch
with friends – great. Sunday lunch with the family – perfect. A wedding?
Definitely not. Of course you’re going to look and feel silly if you wear
sportswear to a formal occasion. Even something semi-formal can be a stretch.
Sportswear is best incorporated in casual events and with people you feel
relaxed with. For the younger generations, it might be simple to add a few
sports pieces to nights out, concerts and festivals, because it’s become the
mainstream with their generations. But it’s really not about some arbitrary
rules, it’s about whether you feel wearing sportswear in that occasion is okay
or not.
Accessorize
If you are
wearing a tracksuit set and some sneakers – you’re just going to the gym. But
if you have some statement earrings and a Louis Vuitton bag, now you have
fashion. It’s important to accessorize correctly because you don’t want to look
like you are just throwing random pieces together. But with the current fashion
trends, you’ll pretty much be able to get away with any combination, as long as
it’s not too loud. Remember, it’s all in the details and statements, so
clashing different styles is fine, but clashing patterns is still not a good
idea. Play around with jewelry, hats, bags and shoes – If Dua Lipa can pull off
a neon sweater, blue sweatpants and stiletto heels – you can do it too.
You don’t need to push yourself into wearing sportswear if you don’t want to, but getting a few pieces that you like and styling them in new situations is a great exercise in fashion and a way to explore your personal style. It’s always easiest to start with going for lunch after the gym, because that’s the most appropriate time to wear sportswear, and then work your way out from there.
